Avengers: Age of Ultron review

Next up and the last instalment of this Media Diary is Avengers: Age of Ultron. This is the biggest movie yet in this series but after seeing the first Avengers movie I didn't have too high hopes for this one either. Mashing together all of these different characters and trying to have enough screen time for each of them is a difficult task to do while trying to keep a cohesive story going and that I feel like is the pitfall for this movie.

The story continues with the Avengers raiding yet another Hydra base this time in Slovakia where they have finally been able to locate Loki's staff. As usual the enemy side has little chance against our heroes, until they reach the base where they encounter two siblings each possessing a superpower. One with superhuman speed and the other with telepathic and telekinetic abilities. But the siblings quickly retreat allowing the Avengers to retrieve the staff. With the power of the staff Stark and Banner use it to try to create an artificial intelligence capable of protecting the earth which they call project Ultron. But as always the plan goes horribly wrong now they have to take care of the aftermath.

As I mentioned earlier I don't think mashing all of these charters together works too well as a whole. Sure you do get these awesome moments like Hulk vs the Hulkbuster and the awesome combination attacks shown off between Thor and Captain America, but story wise it just doesn't work. To make the matters worse some of the characters even feel useless most of the time just like in the first one but this time they have even realised this themselves. To fix this they try to make the characters useful by making the Black widow be able to calm down the Hulk and making Hawkeye provide a safe place to hide in. But in my opinion this just highlights the uselessness of these characters and makes it just that much more frustrating.

Knowing that the later movies just keep on adding more and more characters into the mix makes me kind of worried but still at the same time kind of exited to see how they are able to manage the resulting mess. But before that I do have to take a break from Marvel movies. Even though it was fun catching up in these movies, it does get to a point where you just can't handle any more superhero movies for a little bit. But over all it has been a fun ride and this was a pretty nice way of wrapping it up
